Ingredients:
CAKE INGREDIENTS:
9" pastry shell
1 1/4 c. cake flour, sifted
1 t. baking powder
½ t. salt
3/4 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
½ c. milk at room temperature
1 t. vanilla
1 egg at room temperature
Desired sauce choice (Either fudge or butterscotch)
FUDGE SAUCE:
1/4 c. butter
½ c. sugar
2 T. cocoa powder
3 T. water
½ t. vanilla
BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE:
1/4 c. butter
½ c. packed brown sugar
2 T. corn syrup
3 T. water
½ t. vanilla

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°. Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar; cut in the shortening. Add the milk and vanilla and beat for 2 minutes with electric mixer. Add the egg and beat 1 minute more. Pour batter into pastry shell. Pour desired sauce over batter (do not spread sauce). Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until top springs back when touched.

TO MAKE FUDGE SAUCE: Place butter, sugar and cocoa powder in small saucepan. Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring often. Add water and bring back to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes and continue stirring. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Use as directed in cake instructions.

TO MAKE BUTTERSCOTCH SAUCE: Place butter, brown sugar and corn syrup in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring often. Add water and bring back to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes and continue stirring. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Use as directed in cake instructions.
